Sampoti is a salon man. I did not recognize him although he grew up in the neighbourhood. He controlled a small business. I ask him to show me to visit him regularly for a training or practical work. I continued with him my small and little knowledge of doing the hair.

On a later stage 2008/9 I registered with EBS, the business school. The school provided us with small grants. The first grant was R6000 which came as R500 per month for a year. So I started to use it buying some extra books and what ever was needed for the course. The second grant was a R6000 which come/was cash in my card.

I managed to buy myself a bicycle, a piece of land and on that piece of land I build a place of work. The place is suitable for a salon. Just because the salon needs so many things like equipment and stock I am still waiting for the last grant R6000 (2010).

In the meantime I am busy with doing the brooms, serving the town Franschoek. The money that I am getting I put it or save it for my future dream – the Salon.

Thanks to Services SETA.

Letters to EBS: Lillian Prag http://ebschool.com/2010/09/lillian-prag/ http://ebschool.com/2010/09/lillian-prag/#comments Fri, 17 Sep 2010 09:47:42 +0000 Admin http://ebschool.com/?p=347 The course SETA offered was very informative and educational.

It inspired me to be on the lookout for new ideas and to improve ways to make life easier.

To find solutions for basic problems in life at work, home & community.

Not to be satisfied with what I see but to enquire why and how it came to past.

To become a good listener and not just to hear but to listen and react and find a solution to a problem.

To address problems in a professional manner to improve relationships between colleages at work & community.

To promote work in such a manner to work smart and not hard.

To do research in such a manner to avoid unnecessary bottleneck situations and if it occur that it be sorted out in a short period of time.

Last but not least to never let go of my dream and goal in life and to love life and enjoy living while learning as much as I can to achieve my goals in life.

Thank you once again Corina and Uncle Steve.

Letters to EBS: Heino Davids http://ebschool.com/2010/09/heino-davids-wellingtonpaarl/ http://ebschool.com/2010/09/heino-davids-wellingtonpaarl/#comments Fri, 17 Sep 2010 09:36:45 +0000 Admin http://ebschool.com/?p=345 I am a entrepreneurial student for almost 2 years now at EBS/SETA.

Before I was informed about the EBS course I was confused in different ways. At that time I was job hunting and a staff member of Red Door introduced me to the entrepreneurial course. In my first year we used to come together on a Wednesday for class in Paarl area and every Wednesday was worth it. EBS taught me how to overcome the fear of trying/doing somethings different in my life and to believe in myself. I have overcome the paradigms I was taught and grew up with certain things must just be a certain way. EBS (took) made me see the light in the tunnel, and now I can see the world in a more broader and different way.

I learnt important things that I didn’t know before and wasn’t taught when I was younger or in school. I am so confident in myself and I start my own business. Although my business is small and in a incubation state I know I will achieve what I want to achieve in a period of time. Not only for the information how to become an entrepreneur I also achieve to accept myself for who I am and to better my personal life as well as my financial life. This was the best choice I ever made in my entire life – thats the way way I feel about EBS/SETA and I will continue learning as long as they allow me to.

Thanks EBS/SETA for making me believe in myself.

You have given me hope to fulfill my long dream and it has become a reality.

Sorry I am not good in putting my words in random order, but you’ve done so much for me, I don’t know where to start. Since leaving school in 1969 it was a huge gap to start again with schoolwork, but I can truly say I’ve enjoyed every minute sitting and listening and learning. We hung unto every woard and everything to me was new as if  it was the first time. WOW Corina has taught me everything I need to know about the business world, and to write my own Business Plan, how to register, how to work out forecasts, calculation of profits, how to file and ran the business. we were also shown were to go for finances, loans or grants. You did not only teach me free without charging me a cent, you’ve even paid me to come and learn. I received R500 per month which I did not even expect and the bonus which was so appreciated and I thank you. I used every rand wisely. I bought myself a new Industrial Machine Cotton machine attachments, zip material and much much more.

I don’t think I will ever have enough words to say THANK YOU so much for the stipend every month. You’ve taught me to dream and to be positive and have a changed mindset.

How to start up, what risks there is ahead. I take this opportunity in thanking the following people for what I’ve received:

EBS/Service SETA

Mauritz Bekker

Corina van der Linde

Stephen van Eyssen

Pieter Bouwer

You’ve all guided me for the future business world and thanks once again for choosing me to do the NQF Level 5.

Thank you also once again for the Graduation for everything I will always be grateful for what you’ve given me and i will treasure it for life.

You people makes things happen and may your services increase and enlarge worldwide.

Letters to EBS: Ronelle Hendricks – Trismac Cleaning Services http://ebschool.com/2010/06/ronelle-hendricks-trismac-cleaning-services/ http://ebschool.com/2010/06/ronelle-hendricks-trismac-cleaning-services/#comments Mon, 28 Jun 2010 12:20:23 +0000 Admin http://ebschool.com/?p=229 The course unleashed my potential beyond my wildest dreams. Thanks to the creative people involved, it changed the lives of many people in my life.

My husband also started his painting service and is very good in what he does due to my entrepreneurial knowledge that I share.

Consumers so far are accepting my service. I just need to work harder and harder, stay positive to uplift my brand name. (Well known)

I now know the secret of making money and understand how a business works. I’ve learned more about myself and am using the gift that God gave me as an advantage to my business. I love to network with people.

I can now identify problems and change them into business opportunities. If it’s not in my field of expertise, I pass them on to interested parties and make sure the problem is solved.

Thanks for changing my life and that of my family.

Letters to EBS: Murial Schutt – Hout Bay http://ebschool.com/2010/06/murial-schutt-hout-bay/ http://ebschool.com/2010/06/murial-schutt-hout-bay/#comments Mon, 28 Jun 2010 12:17:47 +0000 Admin http://ebschool.com/?p=225 I completed the NQF level 4 course developed by EBS and felt ready and motivated to take charge of my future.

The training empowered me to be on the lookout for gaps in the market. On the harbour in Houtbay there is only fish product/service e.g. raw or fried. I saw the opportunity and decided to open a Boere Wors and Burger Roll Stall.

I immediately negotiated with the Harbour Master and the Museum Manager for space/place. God knows my financial difficulties and made it possible that they both agreed to help me with a lease for six months free of charge, till I could reach maturity phase.

Now I have to put my chosen marketing mix into real action. Thanks to EBS/SETA for opening up a new world for me and teaching theory  that is practically applicable.

I found myself dedicated to this course given by EBS/SETA because of my firm approach and experience and being disciplined in everything I do.

I help to assist every individual on board, especially the workers and family who back me up in everything I do for the business.

I am deeply interested in our wellbeing and welfare. I’m at all times prepared to do something extra outside of my busy schedule.

Thank you for changing my life and my family’s life.

Letters to EBS: Abigail Mthwambi – Grabouw http://ebschool.com/2010/06/abigail-mthwambi-grabouw/ http://ebschool.com/2010/06/abigail-mthwambi-grabouw/#comments Fri, 18 Jun 2010 13:29:53 +0000 Admin http://ebschool.com/?p=204 I am an African woman and 36 years of age. I’m a student of EBS and living in Grabouw. I enrolled in a business course with EBS during 2009 and must add that it was fabulous and I’ve learned so much! It changed my whole life – imagine who I was and who I am today.

At the commencement of the course on 17 February, I was going through a bad patch having to deal with a divorce as well, but as time went by I started to enjoy the course more. The course started with module one about yourself and life skills and while doing it I discovered so many things about myself. This was the first benefit.

The second one is: How to stand firm on who you want to become in life and how to develop the people in our black communities towards their needs. For example through the business I’ve started to help people in my community. I love the way that the next generation looks up to me as their role model and having them also wanting to start their own business and become self sustaining.

This is such a blessing from God and EBS and I still do not know how to thank you all especially the people involved such as Corina, Chris and Mr. van Euyssen. Let God be with you, bless you, keep you and love you forever.

It would be such a blessing if the course could be started again in 2011 in our area as I know that there are many people who realized what the course can do for them and who would be interested in taking the course themselves. They saw the outcome through me and this satisfied their need to see whether it works first.

Letters to EBS: Sibongile Silo http://ebschool.com/2010/06/sibongile-silo/ http://ebschool.com/2010/06/sibongile-silo/#comments Fri, 18 Jun 2010 13:08:23 +0000 Admin http://ebschool.com/?p=196 This course helped me to develop my self-confidence greatly and gave me a range of practical and useful tools.

I am now able to use the tools to run a business, deal with customers, manage cash flow, do pricing and marketing activities and avoid obvious pit falls around what causes a business to be closed down. One part of the course that will help me a lot is the record keeping of the financial side of the business and how to calculate the gross profit. Now I know about fixed costs, forecast and start-up capital that is needed. I can also assist anyone else who may be starting up a business with this valuable information.

The course also gave me good information around how to achieve my monthly sales in different ways, how to course funding, manage cash-flow, purchase and control stock. Recruitment on its own is a huge area and I feel very comfortable that I now have an understanding around this subject and could use it in my business (Whenever it is possible for me to go into my own business).

One thing that the course taught me was to know myself and to set a goal. I found that the training around child care for special-need children is what I love and it is definitely a direction that I would like to take my life and my work in. This course has shown me that I would love to open up my own centre to work with and support the development of these children – my own EDC (Early Child Development) Centre. I know that this is going to be a huge chall;enge for me, especially as I am a single-parent, but I know that this is what I want to do, and I know I can do it well. In fact, I am going to register my own business soon so that I can start to make this dream come true.

I know that I still have to do some work. For example I have to find out how much parents will pay me for this service. This means I will be asking many people what they can afford to pay before I can complete my financial plan. The marketing mix is valuable information to help me decide how to set my pricing for my service, taking into account all the costs that I will have (eg. cleaning goods, educational toys and equipment like jungle-gyms, food, furniture, stationery, electricity, water, rent, and so on). Also, to identify who mu customers is and how to reach them (eg. The clinics and community centres).

Another benefit of this course is that I now know people who can aid me in achieving my goals and put me in touch with organisations. I can turn to them for assistance and guidance on the phone or I can make an appointment to speak to them. As this is the first time that I will be in my own business, it is really important to me to know that I have such people to turn to for this help – which makes me very happy and thankful.

Thank you for the information that you have given to me. It will change my life for the better and help me to achieve all my personal goals.
