I started the business 7 years ago after I finished a basic film school at Kibbutz Elshammah in Worcester. My passion for the arts and the ability to direct and lead, drove me to take on the new venture. I was also an employer for the government for 5 years. I work at the school for the deaf at Nuwe Hoop School in Worcester. Like many others, the work I did not satisfied me at all. It was only after I finished my film school course, that I realized what direction I wanted my life to go.
I worked for a local photographer for a year and I decided to go on my own. For at least 3-4 years I tested the market to see if I could get a go at it. I manage to build a reasonable client base, but growth was not yet satisfactory. It was only when I was introduced to the training SETA and EBS had to offer that my mindset began to change and my vision was born. The training gave me direction. I had the skill to do photography and video graphic work but not yet the knowledge on how to run it as a business. SETA gave my business structure and the hope to reach my dreams. The Financial Management and Viability & Feasibility modules gave the knowledge on how a business should be run and how to do proper research. My client base has doubled since I applied the knowledge I received through SETA & EBS. I now manage to draw a salary and still grow the business. My assets grew from R5000 to over R55 000 and is still growing. I am able to help in job creation by employing 1 casual and 1 permanent staff member. I registered as a CC last year and already have my own web site – www.yolandeshoot.co.za. My monthly turnover is increasing every month. My vision is to take the business to a national, and in the long term to an international level.
